I know, I know, I have not added any article since my departure for Washington.
fault confessed is half forgiven ... you write to tell me how you want me to make me forgive the other half!
The truth is that this trip to Washington, like the one I'm in Indianapolis and Chicago in the late blitz of campaigning and the party to victory in the presidential election, was not only rich in History (With a capital H, let me tell you), but also in reflection.
You see, this kind of whirlwind tour in a highly political context brings together all the ingredients of a brainstorm. First there is the moment, the event that makes us move, in this case the election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. I wish now to mention that his election is not only historic because it is the first African American to remain at the White House. I will explain further ... The second ingredient is the reflection of the meeting. Our group consisted of nine persons, all different and interesting, and the mixture of personalities creates movement, requires a dynamic. Finally there is time, long hours away. Conducive to discussion, these quiet periods, often at night, promote a type of exchange calmer, less argumentative and, to some extent, more constructive.
This creative mix germinated or became clearer, some ideas, including the need to work now for the establishment of a new Quebec inc.
Let me explain.
When we study the Quiet Revolution, that great work of modernizing Quebec, one thing is obvious. At the basis of achievements, advances in technology, social awareness is a set of leaders. All different, but most often bound by their past, their actions or even solid friendships, the precursors and the major players of the Quiet Revolution and its aftermath united, opposed, knew each other.
They were working on a new Quebec. It is high time that our generation do the same!
You tell me that time is perhaps not come, that some of us are still studying, test the waters, to seek what will our role in society of tomorrow. You are right. But to discuss new ideas to stir the established conventions, to start drawing, at first awkwardly, the contours of Quebec that we want to remodel, no need to be already luminaries. Do you think that Lesage, Lévesque, Ryan, and other Laberge Bourgault, Parizeau or Péladeau (to name, and so much arbitrary, but a few) are expected to have a Ph.D. in hand or in a prominent position before to reflect, individually and collectively, to the future? No. Research has begun very early and diplomas as the positions were the ideals that others have been added along the way in this revolutionary whirlpool they created.
Quebec in which we live today sometimes seems aimless, lacking in projects and pursuits. Moreover, as nobody seems able to fight, ready to break the ice, all tend to be silent, waiting for the spark that will allow them to perhaps finally to convey the idea that they have a topic or another.
Let that spark. Begin to share our thoughts, to outline our plans, to compare our visions.
It also manages the IT's campaign of Barack Obama. Beyond the color of his skin and his charisma is his way of campaigning that has marked the history. Gathering rather than divide, allow all (to a different extent, of course) to submit its ideas, the actors of coalesce generation and subsequently involved in things, listening ... act.
While we are media (perceived as) as varied as unions, business, community, research, media, politics, arts and culture and many others are going to the one- others are building ties, and debating, these simple gestures are beginning to build the Québec of tomorrow.
